Christmas Nutmeg Cookies

  • ½ cup softened butter
  • 6 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 8 oz slivered almonds


  • Preheat oven to 350℉.
  • Blend together butter, 4 tbsp of sugar, vanilla, and salt in a bowl until combined well.
  • Sift flour into the butter mixture and blend with a fork until mixture forms a soft dough.
  • Shape dough into 9 inch roll.
  • Brush with one beaten egg.
  • Roll the dough in a mixture of remaining sugar and nutmeg.
  • Wrap airtight and chill for 2 hours.
  • Cut the dough into ¼ inch slices placing 1 inch apart on a lightly greased cookie sheet.
  • Split the second beaten egg in half and red food color to one half and green food color to the second half.
  • Brush the tops of cookies with red egg mixture and dip slivered almonds in green egg mixture.
  • Place two almonds on top of cookies in the shape of holly.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes.
